I’m just curious. I’ve only gotten two, and both were ridiculously overpriced. I’m not saying I didn’t deserve them, but they were obvious revenue grabs. The absolute worst was $212 for just going 53 in a 45 in the middle of Tennessee. I was still slowing down from the transition from a 55 zone, but whatever. Should’ve been a $50 ticket. If I’m gonna pay 200 bucks for speeding, I at least want the thrill of breaking 100.

I got 3 in one day once, made a post in Oppo about it I think: https://oppositelock.kinja.com/bow-before-me-1797950485 .

But the most expensive was certainly 190 km/h on a 120 km/h road.

There is no such thing as an “overpriced” ticket. Fines are calculated at a posted rate. If you don’t want the ticket, don’t speed.

Pfft. In Ct. its $200 to pull the cap off the pen. Then up to $500 from there.

$216 for 56 in a 40 (temporary construction limit). Sunday morning, no workers present, with two crying kids in the back seat on our way home from vacation.

One dollar for each mph over, plus $200 in court costs.

Rural south Alabama, naturally.

I got a $262 ticket when I was 17 for going 66 in a 45. I didn’t go to court or fight it, I just paid online. So far, it’s been the only ticket I’ve gotten.

About 6 years ago I got a $100 ticket for going 45 in a 35 zone where the speed limit was clearly set artificially low for revenue generation. I wasn’t paying close enough attention; I knew where the cops always hid, so it was my fault that I put myself in position to be pulled over. But still, there was zero reason for the limit to be 35 in that area.

Literally one week after I was ticketed they raised the speed limit in that same area to 45, probably from the years of complaints.

$326 for 63 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer also believed the road surface to be wet. 2 mph more and I would have lost my license. I know what I had been doing so I’m not sure if it was luck, or the guy cut me a break, that i didn’t get nailed.

All in, maybe approx 2000 dollars. 101 in a 65 required me to lawyer up to avoid license suspension and many many points. The ticket itself was like 1200 dollars, every other time (6 or 7 times) I’ve been caught in the 95-105 range has either been warnings or low cost no point tickets, so this was bound to happen.

Was going at most 10mph faster than traffic and it was pretty clear all 5 lanes in each direction.

Saying this with zero irony, my driving record is actually very clean.

Well yeah, but there’s no denying that some small towns purposely have ridiculously high fines just for the revenue. Apparently this one (I think it was called Garrison) funds EVERYTHING through speeding tickets. The road I was on is 55mph on both sides of the city limits, then drops down to 45 presumably just to catch people who don’t notice.

Where I live the fines are set by the state. They vary with work zones, residential, school zones, etc. I commute every day and generally drive like a dipshit but I am comfortable with paying the penalty for driving like I have someplace to be.

$450 + my lawyer. 104 in 50 on my Triumph last year. On the bright side, I got to keep my license!

$170 and $50 driving schools costs to wipe the points.

76 in a 55mph zone, no turn signal/unsafe lane changes, driving with passengers under 21 (because I was 17 and still on the unofficial license). I had decent excuses and coupled with my explaination that went over the judges head (As she admitted), I was only charged with the speeding and the fine was reduced from significantly more than $170

I don’t remember the price of the original tickets, but Michigan once sent me a $100 “driver responsibility fee” on top of that, just for racking up so many points.

I’ve only gotten two tickets in 20 years of driving. The last one was a 45 in a 30, cost me something like $180 is I recall. That was five years ago. Got court supervision. I’ve never had a point on my license.

My ticket in West Virginia. It was a $140 ticket for 78 in a 65.

Not long after, I lost my job and neglected the ticket. This led to seven tickets for driving with no license, 3 nights in 2 different county jails, $250 bail bond payment. Then $550 to one lawyer in the county that issued a warrant. Then $1000 to one lawyer who was disbarred due to his mishandling of his secretary’s embezzlement. Then another $600 to a third attorney who took care of a different county. Add $250 in fines for that county. Then another $800 to another lawyer who was able to get the other three charges dismissed.

So just about $3600 for a ticket that would have been $140 had I been responsible.

60,000 yen (about $ 550 US at the time) for going 35KPH over the speed limit. I was driving on an international license but if I had had my Japanese license it would have been suspended for 6 months as well. That was 19 years ago and I haven’t had another speeding ticket since.

Biggest single ticket was $500 for 98 in a 50. I got it reduced in court to 60 in a 50 with a $200 fine.

Most expensive time I was pulled over was for expired tags. $400 to get my car back because of some uber-shady practices by the tow company plus a $400 ticket. It was the day before thanksgiving that the car was towed, the tow company wasn’t open on thanksgiving(understandable), was closed on black friday, then was closed for the weekend. Mind you they weren’t closed for new cars that were getting towed, they were just closed to people trying to get their cars back. So I showed up bright and early on Monday...and they charged me for 6 full days plus the tow costs. I was really irate. The officer that pulled me over didn’t show up in court so I was able to plead not guilty and dodge the fine.

I think the officer felt bad because I walked home from where he towed my car(which was 8 miles) and on my way back I ran across him trying to get a car that was high-centered on a curb off said curb and I walked over and gave him a hand. He thought I was walking to the police station to get the paperwork I needed to recover the car. He didn’t realize that I still had another 3+ miles to go.

This all happened while my parents were out for their anniversary dinner, and there was no way in hell I was going to interrupt their anniversary dinner to ask them to come pick me up because I’d gotten my car towed.
